I had a bipass operation in 2008 with no problems until 2013. Shortly after using baking soda as suggested all over the internet for my gout of 30 years, I suddenly found myself unable to breath one night while home alone. I barely managed to call 911 and was rushed to the hospital and admitted with congestive heart failure. My doctors believe that the home treatment with baking soda added so much sodium to my system that my heart couldn't handle the accummulated fluids. If you have rapid unexplained weight gain, stop using the baking soda and see a doctor immediately. I'm sticking with the doctor's treatment plan now and avoiding any unnecessary sodium intake. I would recommend taking the suggestion of discussing the use of baking soda with your health care provider Very Seriously!
