Okay, here goes. This is the truth and nothing but the truth (as best I perceive it). And I am not selling anything!
I had gout for several years, suffered a lot and did lots of research, and tried many alleged cures mostly to no avail.
About 3 years ago I was talking to an accupuncturist about gout and she commented that purine is a protein and the ability of the body (especially liver and kidneys) to handle protein has everything to do with uric acid build up and gout. For some reason this rang a bell in my head. I simply reduced my protein intake particlarly of meat, fish and shellfish. Instead of a steak I had half a steak, small amounts of pate (which I love), just one lamb chop (not two), half a pork chop, and small amounts of shrimp or fish. Result: End of gout.
I love wine and drink wine quite a lot. I have not observed any correlation between my wine consumption a gout symptoms
I should mention that I exercise more than I used to and eat more fruit and vegtables, and my life is low stress since I am retired 3 years ago.
Sometimes if I eat more meat, fish or shellfish than usual I feel some slight pain in my feet. I cut back on the protein and it goes away in a couple of days.
Yes I love a big steak but come on guys, is it worth it. Gout hurts. Modify your diet and live a better life.
That's my input.
