So in my early 20's I would hit the bars with friends at least 3 days a week. Heavy beer consumption every time. One morning I woke up and my big toe felt like someone smacked it with a hammer! I've never felt that kind of deep, constant pain before. At first I thought I was drunk and stubbed my toe really hard, I did not know what gout was. These flares would happen maybe once a year for the next 10 years before I figured out it was gout. Toe, arch, ankle, knee.....ouch. I started researching and learning how to lessen the flares. Before I changed my diet the gout was on me almost every other month, lasting 1-2weeks! Miserable way to live. I started finding natural remedies to balance the ph levels, lower uric acid and foods to avoid. My triggers are heavy beers, hot dogs/salami, soft drinks, shellfish, high fructose corn syrup. I try to limit red meat. I eat or drink lemon water every morning on an empty stomach. Drink cherry juice, eat cherries when in season. Lime in water, grapefruit and keep your weight down. Hope this helps as I didn't want to be put on a med.
