Gout warning signs

My husband always has a stage of being hyper & 'mischevious' a few days before a gout attack. This is followed by an overwhelming urge to overdo exercise, then a morose, staring into space phase, followed by a short tempered, spiteful, angry, road-ragey phase! Then he has a massive gout attack. Can anyone else relate to this? He sometimes feels sick before too. Gout is well established in his family but the only 'warning sign' his dad got was a 'kicking out' sensation in the 'about to be affected' foot. I've only found 1 mention of 'short temperedness' on the web as a precurser & would be very interested if anyone else had similar pre-gout symptoms.

Hi Helen,


I have been suffering from gout since the age of 9. Both parent had it.
In regards to your question, I have felt similar symptoms that you describe. But for me, sadness and tiredness are symptoms of a gout crisis to come.
In addition, after taking allopurinol for 20 years, I am now trying uloric.
Is anyone out there can share their experience with those meds?
I wonder sometimes if stopping meds all together would just be better because of the side effect of pills...
