I am a 31 year old woman who has recently had major pelvic surgery 4 weeks ago .whilst in hospital i started with a pins and needles sensation in my big toe on my operated leg, i asked my consultant about this n he told me it was nerve damage after getting out of hospital my pain becomes much worse. i went to my doctors who also told me it was nerve damage. one week later and im still in complete agony all together i have had this pain for 3 weeks . i then went back to my doctor again last week who confirmed my pain to be gout, he has prescribed me some medication called ARCOXIA otherwise known as ETORICOXIB i have been taking just 60mg of this medication for 3 days but they pain hasnt subsided. im not sure how long i will have gout for? has anybody else had gout for this long and is it normal?

Gout attacks can last weeks
by: Frank

Hi Emma,
It is strange at your age you have gout.
I have just looked up ARCOXIA and Etoricoxib. They seem to belong to a new generation of NSAID.
I have had gout attacks last from one hour to a week of solid pain and unable to walk, and then the pain reduced for another 2 weeks.
It really depends if the uric acid is built up and how fast you can flush it out of your system, but my attacks vary so much it is annoying. Make sure you eat plenty of food with your NSAID and drink lots of water to help flush your system. Keep your foot elevated and also try cold packs to reduce pain or hot packs to get the blood moving in the joint.
If you feel like it isnt working then get a second opinion from another doctor.
I wish you well.
