My husband suffered gout for years in his right toe. After trying what seemed to be everything we found that digestive enzymes actually worked for him. For exactly one year and eleven months. Now the gout has returned...only now it seems to be floating from one area on his foot to the next. I wonder if trying to combat it makes it worse for him though. We decided to eat only vegetables and pasta or rice for a full week and he actually had a more intense throbbing with the gout that kept him awake most of the night for a couple nights. He had never experienced pain quite like that before. We added meat back into the diet and it seemed like it was going away. The swelling went down in his ankle and the pain in his foot as well. However today the pain is back now in a new area of his foot. He will be going to see a rheumatoid arthritis specialist in early August. Will have to wait and see what the doc has to say. I also wonder if newer supplements can be culprit to this new form of gout. He recently (within the last 5 months) started taking cholest-off and liver rite liver aid. The cholestoff works just as well as a statin did for him without the nasty side effects that he had gotten from the statin. And we believe that the liver aid helped too. Though in addition to starting that...we have greatly reduced the amount of HFCS in our diets so that could have had a lot to do with the improved liver enzyme #'s. Anyway, if the digestive enzymes helped him for as long as they did. Perhaps they can help someone else for just as long if not longer.
