I am now 55 years of age and have gout since I was about 25. The usual causes of over indulgence with food and wine, especially red wine, change of lifestyle (business trips away) have generally triggered an attack.
But I had at times had attacks with out doing any of the above. When we looked at what was happening, these were times of great stress. The first time I had such an attack, it went on for about 4 weeks as I was in a work situation where I just had to stay and get the job finished. I would take my NSAID's to help get rid of the attack, but a day later if I stopped taking them, the twinges would start and would get worse if I did not get back on the NSAID's. Then these drugs make you feel worse in other area's of your health and just seem to add to the stress with the pain already. In the past I have taken Vitamin B supplements to help deal with the stress, and in hindsite, beleive that this was a help to improving my lifestyle.
Now I run my own business, and I can look at an attack coming on and relaise that yes, I am in stress mode again.
I have just found this site and the ACV Maintenance plan, have started just two days ago, so will see how it all goes.
