Stress seems to always play a part in my Gout attacks!

After suffering from gout attacks for many years. I am able to look back and associate the attacks many times with stress. The worst attack ever came two days after I lost my job of 28 years at Christmas time and lasted 2 weeks. Other times it would show up as a dead line at work approached or in the trying times of dealing with the death of my parents and handling their estate.
Sometimes it would seem that there was nothing, like the attack today. But as I think about it could it be the stress of the thousands of dollars that I need for a water well repair, or as I just read on this page, could it be the fact that I had eggs everyday had little more beer & beef than normal last week.
Whatever causes the timing of the attacks I don't know? I am sure that my intake has a lot to do with it. But when the gout attack flares up I can usually correlate a stressful event approaching or happening with the attack.
I need to take the advice from this page and start a journal.

Your stress and Gout attacks
by: Peter

Hi Steven,
Thank you for your story. I truly believe that Gout attacks occur in stressful situations. Mine have over the years, similar to yours, such as loss of job, parents dying etc.
Everyday we are faced with stressful events, minor or major and this coupled with a diet that isn't friendly for gout such as excess beer or malt liquor, too much seafood, meat, tomatoes etc.
Keeping a journal is a great idea to monitor what triggers your gout and eliminating it from your diet or at least reducing the intake.
I find that meditation is beneficial. It sounds a little left of field but I believe that anything that can reduce the noise in the mind and reduce stress can also benefit reducing gout attacks. Please send an update of your gout story so readers can also benefit from your experience. I wish you well.
Regards
Peter
